“A hundred percent”; Raquel Rodriguez reflects on the idea of introducing a mid-card Women’s Championship

Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah as a Tag-Team

Raquel Rodriguez was one of the important finds for WWE’s female division and they did that successfully via NXT where the woman had a strong showing which also helped her to become NXT Women’s Champion as well as a Tag-Team champion with Dakota Kai. Her strong frame and gigantic build just adds up in the attributes section differentiating Rodriguez from others.

She received her main-roster call earlier this year in the month of April first marking her first appearence in a backstage interview which got interrupted by The Los Lotharios. However, her in-ring Smackdown debut came on the April 29th edition which saw the former NXT Champion defeat Cat Cardoza in a squash match.

Raquel also received an opportunity at the Smackdown Women’s title against Ronda Rousey which she lost despite some valiant efforts. Shortly after, she was paired with Aliyah as a team and they continued to grow as babyfaces for weeks henceforth developing some chemistry. The dynamic duo came up as the breakout team in the recently concluded Women’s Tag-Team Championship tournament reaching the finals where they defeated the heavy favourites, Damage CTRL. With this emphatic victory, they got crowned as the new champs. However, their joy couldn’t last for long as they quickly lost the gold to Dakota Kai and IYO SKY.

As we know, WWE started a women’s revolution few years back inorder to put more emphasis upon their female talent who previously went under the scanner for many years. Superstars like Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair produced one of the best rivalries in company’s history going through historic first ever Hell in a Cell and 30-min IronMan matches for women.

Raquel Rodriguez wants to see women continue thriving under the same belt and recently during an interview with NBC Sports Boston, she talked about the introduction of mid-card women titles. The powerhouse of Smackdown spoke highly about the possibility mentioning something like including Intercontinental and American North American titles for them. She called introduction of these a major leap in all-round development of women and she really looks forward towards the idea.

“A hundred percent. I think that would be something so great for the women’s division, especially because we have so much diversity in the women’s division. I think having an Intercontinental Championship, having a North American Championship for the women would be something, you know, a huge leap forward for the women’s division and wrestling in general.
