Money in the Bank event on July 1st shocked the world when Shayna Baszler betrayed her tag team partner and long-time best friend, Ronda Rousey. The team’s matchup had them defending their Tag Team Championship against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. But now the real reason for the team’s breakup has come forward, with the idea being that their betrayal was planned for earlier, but Rousey’s injury prolonged it to the abrupt incident at Money in the Bank.

The rivalry between Shayna and Ronda was put forth by the latter, as it was a dream feud for her. As she wanted to fight her friend, who brought her to professional wrestling and reward her with an eventual match with her. With Ronda Rousey‘s contract also ending near WrestleMania 40, she wanted to ignite the feud right now to see it go further for higher stakes. Hence, WWE rushed the idea of their breakup to make use of Rousey’s limited availability.

According to a report by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE had plans for long-term storytelling, hinting at their breakup. But Ronda suffered an injury that kept her out of the company for a month after WrestleMania. WWE thought of keeping it a surprise and shocking the WWE Universe. Their plans of handing over the Tag Team Titles were a part of the impactful betrayal that not only affected Ronda but also cost her the championship.

Shayna and Rousey won the tag team championship in a fatal-four-way match on the May 29 episode of RAW. Then on the June 23 episode of SmackDown, they unified their championship with the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship. Their victory was followed by their confrontation with Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez, who challenged them for the titles at Money in the Bank.

Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler got involved in a heated argument and brawl on the July 3 episode of RAW. This segment was a fallout from the betrayal Rousey faced at Money in the Bank from Shayna. As a result, Ronda demanded an explanation from Baszler, while the latter’s explanation saw the former get shut up.

Following this segment, Baszler was interviewed backstage, where she smashed Rousey more with her destructive words. She stated that she had this rage building up and needed to get it off her chest. And the moment she hit her knee along with the ankle stretch, she felt even better.

Shayna and Ronda could be seen facing each other at SummerSlam, with the rivalry continuing over various weekly episodes.
