“None of us EXPECTED it” Rey Mysterio reflects on Vince McMahon’s retirement
Ever since Vince McMahon announced his retirement on 22nd July via micro-blogging site Twitter, the wrestling world was taken aback. The move drew a lot of reactions around the world. While some were shocked, some said it would lead to the start of a new era in WWE. Recently, Former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio also joined the queue to reflect on Ex- Chairman’s retirement. Mysterio, who recently completed his 20 years in the company is considered close to Vince.
He is a grand slam champion as he has won WWE Championship, WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and the WWE United States Championship as well. Considered one of the greatest luchadors of all time, Mysterio made his WWE debut in 2002 before making a name for himself in mexican wrestling promotions such as AAA and rival promotions of WWE such as WCW and ECW. Mysterio was recently seen in a tag team championship match with his son Dominik Mysterio on WWE Raw where they lost the match.

Rey Mysterio says that Vince’s retirement came as a shock to many
One of the greatest cruiserweights of all time, Mysterio, recently reflected on the retirement of Ex-Chairman of WWE Vince McMahon. While appearing at Leagues Cup Showcases 2022 Mysterio said- “None of us expected it, we still are in denial that he’s no longer there, but it is reality, and we have to accept it. So, you know, we move on. We keep the show up and running.” Mysterio said that it is still unbelievable for him to show up at work without Vince but at the end of the day the show must go on.
After Vince’s retirement Stephanie McMahon helmed the position of Chairwoman of the company while also retaining the position of Co-CEO with Nick Khan. Triple H would be named as the head creative of the company as he has great experience in running the shows. As the creative director of NXT between 2015-19, which is also referred to as the black and golden era of the brand is considered one of the best runs for a developmental territory.
While there are substantial changes that have started to surface after the power change, it still remains intriguing how much the product evolve over time. Triple H’s booking of shows has been widely appreciated so far as The Game has already started bringing back the stars who went on a hiatus but were extremely talented. While Mysterio still juggles as a mid-carder it is unlikely that he will get a push for the WWE Universal Championship amid so many contendors.
It is likely that Mysterio with his son is going to be on the hunt for The Unified Tag Team Titles against The Usos. But when it comes to WWE you should never say never. Would like to see Rey Mysterio as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, let us know in the comments.
