WWE reportedly believed heavy involvement of Roman Reigns on Television following Championship Unification
Roman Reigns has proved to be mega attraction for WWE recently
Roman Reigns has been on a thunderbolt run ever since returning to WWE as a bad guy back at Summerslam 2020. It’s been almost 2 years from then and this guy has not looked back a step. He took out multiple legends including Edge, John Cena and Brock Lesnar during his record-breaking title reign.
In the main event of Wrestlemania 38 Sunday, Reigns defeated Lesnar to become the Undisputed Universal Champion to what was received by fans and critics polarisably. It’s been over 2 months since Mania and Reigns is yet to make his 1st title defense which is a weird scenario if you look at it with a naked eye.
But let’s clear the case, nearly a month ago it was reported that Roman Reigns has signed a new deal with WWE which will allow him to work much fewer dates than his original hectic schedule. As part of the deal, Roman is now believed to only work bigger stadium shows rather than working a small indoor arena type event. Hence his no title defense could be somewhat justified.
But do you know that the decision to put both the titles on Reigns and unify them was originally meant in a way by WWE creative with a belief that it will allow him to appear on both Raw and Smackdown regularly, clearly this all changed with a flurry when Roman Reigns inked a special-deal with them.
Long term trusted source of WWE news, Wrestlevotes has revealed the following upon the idea of WWE creative behind the Championship Unification,
“According to a source, the creative decision to unify the titles was with the understanding it would allow Roman Reigns to appear on both shows more regularly…….. maybe that wasn’t the best decision”.
Talking about how Roman has performed since becoming the Undisputed Universal Champion at Mania, he worked in a six-man tag team where he and The Usos (The Bloodline) ganged up to face the trio of Drew McIntyre, Randy Orton and Riddle in which Reigns pinned Riddle after hitting him with a spear to pick up the win for The Bloodline.
Next, he recently missed WWE Hell in a Cell premium-live-event for a second time in a row as he didn’t competed at HIAC 2021 either. He’s reportedly set to miss Money in the Bank coming next month too.
Roman Reigns’ first Title Defense post-mania has been made official
After weeks of waiting, WWE has finally announced that Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed Universal Championship against Riddle this week on Friday Night Smackdown with an added stipulation that if Riddle loses he won’t be able to compete for this title until Roman stays the champion.
This will also mark Roman Reigns 1st Smackdown match since December 4 of last year where he squashed Sami Zayn for the Universal Championship.
