52-year-old HOF’er believes WWE might’ve canceled his WrestleMania 40 plans due to recent stint for AEW
Rob Van Dam opens up about his WrestleMania 40 spot being in jeopardy next year due to his AEW appearances.

WWE usually doesn’t permit their closely-knit guys to work for other promotions, especially AEW. However, they flagged the green sign for Rob Van Dam to do so. As a result, he made his AEW debut last month. The following week, on August 9, he wrestled Jack Perry in an FTW rules match for the FTW title. However, Perry low-blowed his opponent, causing Mr. Wednesday Night to lose the match.
Nonetheless, it now appears like WWE has snubbed RVD over his potential WrestleMania 40 involvement. Speaking on the ‘1 of a Kind’ podcast, the 52-year-old delved into his recent AEW hoo-hah. He stated that his recent appearances for the Tony Khan-led promotion might have caused him to be out of the creative plan for WrestleMania’s 40th anniversary.
“Maybe I’d show you if I was doing a WWE tour WrestleMania weekend, but I have good reason to believe that might be canceled because of a recent appearance I might have done, with permission, for a different company,” said RVD. Philadelphia, the home of ECW, will host Next year’s WrestleMania.
And the latter has been quite instrumental in Rob Van Dam’s career. The Hall of Famer served as the torchbearer of the Tod Gordon-chaired company. WWE featured Rob Van Dam while releasing the official priority packages for The Showcase of the Immortals for next year.
However, it’s unknown at this point whether they’ll continue featuring him on their official website for the event. RVD couldn’t disclose much detail on the said matter in the aforementioned podcast. However, the WWE might’ve already relayed the word about him left off.

When did RVD last appear in WWE?

Back in May, during the WWE Draft, RVD was one of the guest Hall of Famers who announced the picks. He delighted everyone by appearing across Raw and SmackDown. Despite being in such a ripped condition, WWE hasn’t allowed RVD to compete for years.
He last wrestled Seth Rollins on the August 29, 2014, edition of SmackDown. That said, it would be an epic sight to behold if he wrestles for the Stamford-based promotion ever again. Right now, he’s juggling the alleged cancellation of his WrestleMania 40 appearance. However, both parties need to figure out a way in between.
Fans in Philly would eagerly anticipate seeing RVD live in person. It would be disappointing if that opportunity goes away due to Van Dam’s brief AEW run. WWE will want to steer clear of any negative fallout. Nevertheless, Triple H will have to address the situation with Mr. Monday Night.
