Last night’s WWE live event at Madison Square Garden was newsworthy, to say the least. From CM Punk’s in-ring return to Seth Rollins paying homage to Brodie Lee and Bray Wyatt, it had everything. However, for a minute or two, a former champion instilled a sense of trepidation among the fans at The Garden. But why’s that?

After The Judgment Day successfully retained their Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles against the duo of Jey Uso and Sami Zayn, the latter appeared to have caught an injury. Zayn, who’s been running absent from television ever since getting demolished by Drew McIntyre on Raw, returned to in-ring action at MSG. However, after biting the dust along with The Yeet Master, Sami kept lying in the ring for a while.

When he did not get back to his feet, a couple of referees checked on him. The matter seemed grave, which also forced ‘Main Event’ Jey to enter the fray. He acted as if the former Honorary Uce had caught an injury. However, after doing the groundwork, Zayn got back to his feet, though still in a hobbling manner. Both Uso and Sami hugged it out, evincing that everything was alright.

If things go as planned, Sami Zayn will work through the entire holiday season of WWE live events. There’s no update on when he will return to Raw. His injury angle from a few weeks ago was done to ratify a time-off for the Great Liberator. Moreover, he was allegedly working through a minor bruise on his body, and WWE let him off to heal up.

What’s the scenario for Sami Zayn’s return to WWE television?

Sami Zayn may pop up directly at next month’s Royal Rumble match in St. Petersburg. Before getting sidelined from television, he was involved in a budding story with Drew McIntyre. The two men witnessed a flux of diabolical emotions, and it appears like McIntyre eventually prevailed. As of now, there’s nothing concrete about WWE’s long-term plans for Zayn.

For now, it might be safe to assume that he won’t be around for the world title picture on Raw, considering the growing disdain between Seth Rollins and CM Punk. That leaves a window of opportunity for Sami to potentially challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship.

Even though there are rumblings that the WWE Universe might finally witness Brock Lesnar return to take out The Ring General for a match at WrestleMania 40, having Sami Zayn as a backup option wouldn’t hurt.
