“I was left out” When Seth Rollins revealed how ‘The Shield’ actually had to break up
The Shield
‘The Shield‘ had been one of the most successful tag teams that ever existed in WWE. The team came into effect in 2012 and lasted till 2017 until Seth Rollins turned against Roman Reigns and Jon Moxley ( then Dean Ambrose). All three members of the team established themselves as proficient players in the company both individually as well as in the team.
All the team members of The Shield held various titles that were running in the then WWE including the United States Championship, Tag Team Championship and InterContinental Championship to name a few. The team had attained absolute dominance in the company in a very short span of time. Seth turning against the team was not liked by the WWE audience since it was too early for the team to be dissolved.
How The Shield dissolution was planned?
The WWE Management had different plans for the team. They wanted the dissolution to happen in 2014 itself. “They wanted to go to Ambrose and Roman and at WrestleMania 30 in New Orleans. I was left out. Maybe a special referee or something. I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?,'” said Rollins in an interview. They themselves were not ready for the break-up. The three men felt that they were still the babyfaces in the company. They got involved in feuds with various teams just to stay a team for long.
The team continued to stay champions and sweep everyone that came its way including ‘The Evolution’. Losing to The Shield in two mega events put a stain on their strength and then one day the management calls them and says, “Tonight is the night.” Seth was himself not ready to turn against his brothers. “No, I’ve been a babyface in NXT — Ambrose is the heel. It’s not the other way around,” he said.
The Shield breakup was the need of the hour. The team was becoming sole powerful, moreover Roman, Rollins and Jon needed to know where they stand as individuals in the hearts of the people. Seth and Roman were pushed greatly towards the Championships whereas Jon Moxley didn’t receive much of the attention leading him to leave the company in 2019. Roman Reigns has become the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion. Seth is also fighting his way towards the title.
The three members reunited once again in 2019 making the fans wonder if the team would be reuniting again. Recently, Seth Rollins said that the Shield will not be seen together for some time at least since Jon Moxley is in AEW. But things change in the blink of an eye in WWE, it wouldn’t be wrong to hope that The Shield might reunite once again.
