Shawn Michaels is one of the greatest sports entertainers of all time. Michaels always wanted to be a wrestler, He completed his graduation and joined the Southwest Texas State University but soon left the university to pursue a career in professional wrestling. Before joining WWE, Shawn wrestled around various promotions from 1984 to 1988, He joined WWE in 1988 and formed an alliance with Marty Jannetty. With whom he shared the tag team championship once. He betrayed Jannetty in 1992 and went on to have a career as a singles wrestler.

Shawn Michaels has had an illustrious career as a singles wrestler. He always made sure that he entertained the WWE Universe, and gave some of the best promos in the history of WWE. He enthralled the audience with his moving performances and amazing comedic abilities. Shawn has left his mark on a variety of WWE matchups and has been a part of the company’s all-time great bouts. In addition to receiving several Feud of the year accolades from different newsletters for his outstanding character work and storytelling in the ring, Shawn Michaels has won the PWI Match of the Year award a record eleven times.

Back in May 2020, Jim Ross explained on his Podcast Grilling JR the fact as to why Vince McMahon favored Shawn Michaels. Jim said that the plans for major events like WrestleMania were made farther out than they are today. Ross said that Shawn kept giving matches and Vince loved Shawn’s Charisma and sizzle in the ring. Jim Ross said that Shawn was a sizzler and the flavor of the week. Jim also said that Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels were the two best in-ring performers of all time, according to him.

Shawn Michaels has said in the past that Vince didn’t fire him because Vince saw how passionate he was for the business and towards the craft of wrestling. Shawn is the only wrestler to have argued and used the F word straight towards Vince’s face. Vince also knew that Michaels would always get the job done when he wanted it.

Last year, Jim Ross talked about Shawn Michaels’ PayScale on his podcast Grilling JR. He said that Vince loved Shawn and that Shawn was paid $750,000 a year for about four years, during which he did nothing but was paid because he was Vince’s guy. JR said that when they went through budgets during those years and talked about Shawn’s contract, Vince would instruct them to keep it as it is.

“Vince loved him. It’s proven. We paid Shawn $750,000 a year for about four years to do nothing because he was Vince’s guy. Every time we go over budgets and things, where are we at with the Shawn contract? Nothing, leave it alone. Ok. Vince didn’t have to do that. Here’s the deal. All Shawn wanted to do was go work and go play with Kevin (Nash) and Scott Hall.”

Shawn retired from wrestling in 2010 and was inducted into the hall of fame in 2011. Currently, Shawn Michaels overseas the creative aspect of NXT Brand.
