“Best women’s locker room there has ever been” – Shayna Baszler recalls her time in NXT

Shayna Andrea Baszler popularly known around the world as Shayna Baszler is a former Absolute Intense Wrestling Women’s Champion who currently works for WWE on Smackdown. Shayna Baszler is a professional Mixed Martial Artist who made her MMA debut in 2006. Shayna Baszler spent the next 11 years working for different promotion earning herself a name as a submission specialist, Shayna also worked with UFC for a brief period of time but due to injuries was released by the company soon after.
After her release from UFC Baszler decided to pursue career in pro wrestling in 2015. Shayna made her pro wrestling debut the same year for Quintessential Pro Wrestling in a losing cause. Shayna Baszler spent the next two years exploring the independent circuit and wrestling all over the world including a short stint in Japan as well. In 2017 Baszler signed for WWE under a developmental contract which saw her participate in the Mae Young Classic Tournament. Baszler made her televised debut on an episode of NXT against Dakota Kai.
Shayna Baszler challenged then champion Athena to a match for the NXT Women’s Championship which she went on to lose but defeated Athena at NXT Takeover : New Orleans to win her first championship with WWE. Shayna would hold on to the title for 133 days before dropping it to Kairi Sane. At Evolution Shayna defeated Sane to become the first ever two time NXT Women’s Champion.
Shayna Baszler was captain of team Baszler in the first ever Women’s Wargames match
Shayna Baszler would hold on the title for 416 days before dropping it to Rhea Ripley on an episode of NXT. Since then Baszler has made her main roster debut and has managed to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship along side Nia Jax. During her time in NXT Baszler participated in the first ever Women’s Wargames match where she was the captain of Team Baszler against Team Ripley.
Shayna Baszler recently sat down for an interview on Out of Character with Ryan Satin, where she discussed at length about her time in NXT and what a special Women’s division NXT had :
“I will go to my deathbed and say that the women’s locker room at the time that we had, like around the first women’s WarGames match, was the best women’s locker room there has ever been in women’s wrestling,” Shayna said.
“I’ll put it up against All Japan Women. It didn’t matter who you picked out of that locker room, you’d be like, ‘Oh, man, they’re gonna have a match. That’s gonna be a banger.’ Every girl was worth her salt. On top of that, and this is the rarity in all women’s sports, is that everybody got along. There were no issues. Everybody just wanted to tell the best story. Everybody just wanted to put on the best match.”
Shayna heaped a lot of praise on her fellow wrestlers and also appreciated the amount of efforts everyone was putting in to make every match a success. Shayna Baszler after a stint in the tag team division is again focused on her singles career.
