The 30-year-old has been absent from WWE television for six months. According to reports, she suffered a torn ACL in early August, sidelining her immediately. During that time, Deville had won the Women’s Tag Team Championships with Chelsea Green a month prior to the injury. The duo defeated Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez on the July 3 edition of Raw to claim the titles.

Ahead of this year’s Royal Rumble, the rumor mill suggested that the former MMA fighter was preparing for an in-ring return. Sonya Deville had been spotted training at the WWE Performance Center. Fans speculated online that she would return as a surprise entrant in the women’s match. However, reports did mention that there was no timetable for her return. Therefore, the WWE Universe will have to wait a while for Deville’s eventual comeback to the squared circle.

What will Sonya Deville’s next challenge be in WWE?

As fans anticipate the return of Sonya Deville to WWE, there is speculation on what her next step will be. The most obvious choice is to indulge herself with Chelsea Green and her replacement, Piper Niven. The former replaced her injured tag team partner with Niven right after Deville was sidelined from WWE programming.

The former MMA fighter could go after Green when she returns, taking revenge for her tag partner replacing her. Another viable option is for Deville to reunite with her, swerving fans as well. The tag team was reportedly viewed optimistically backstage as a way to stabilize the underwhelming division. Therefore, many expected them to reign as Tag Team Champions for a substantial amount of time.

With WrestleMania XL right around the corner, Deville will be hoping to be fully fit for an in-ring return. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what lies ahead for the 30-year-old star’s future in WWE.
