Sting is arguably one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He spent the majority of his career outside of WWE, competing in promotions like WCW, NWA, and TNA, where he achieved legendary status. Nicknamed “The Icon“, Sting accomplished several things in his career. He though never had the opportunity to face off against The Undertaker. When asked about this dream match, Sting has shared his views.

Recently, he would speak to CBS Sports on this regard. The 64-year-old revealed his regret of not having the chance to work with “The Deadman“. He believed that a match between them would have been memorable for the fans and would have been remembered forever.

I think if it was done right, it could have been a night, for sure, everyone would remember and never forget. They would be talking about it to this day. But it just was not going to happen.

While Sting might be upset about not having a dream match with Taker, he now turns his attention towards his retirement match, a tag team bout against The Young Bucks. The feud between them escalated when The Young Bucks attacked The Icon, Darby Allin, and Sting’s son. The retirement match became even more sentimental for The Icon as his father recently passed away.

In a recent episode of Dynamite, Sting retaliated by attacking The Young Bucks, making his presence felt with his iconic entrance from the rafters. His retirement will mark the end of a storied career that spanned almost 40 years.

Sting’s short WWE career

Sting’s WWE career began dramatically as he made his first appearance in a WWE ring by attacking Triple H during the main event of Survivor Series, ultimately costing Team Authority the match. This set off a series of memorable moments, including his live Raw debut where he caused a distraction that helped Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, and Erick Rowan regain their jobs.

The rivalry between Sting and Triple H intensified, leading to a face-to-face confrontation at Fastlane. After some physicality, The Icon challenged Triple H to a match at WrestleMania 31, which was accepted. Despite interference, Sting lost the match but showed respect by shaking hands with Triple H.

Sting later returned to WWE, challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Night of Champions. Although he defeated Big Show in his first match on Raw, The Icon suffered a legitimate neck injury during his match against Rollins. Despite the injury, he remained professional and labeled the incident a “freak accident” instead of blaming Rollins for it.
