Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently gave the starting command during the Daytona 500. The Great One served as the Grand Marshal, delivering the command in a way that only he could. After the success of his big role, the wrestling legend recalled a moment before the start of the race that got him emotional.
The Brahma Bull shared a video of a fan interaction on X, where the latter mentioned his old school name and name-dropped his football coach, Jody Cwick. The Rock took a memory down the lane, reminiscing about the time he got arrested when he was 15. He revealed how Cwick gave him a chance when he called him to play football. The 51-year-old further wrote how the moment changed his life significantly.
Crazy moment here. You’ll see at the end, I’m shooting a cellphone vid for a guy - he gets my attention, by yelling my old high school in Pennsylvania (Freedom) and mentioning my high school football coach, Jody Cwick. The last time I got arrested at 15, Jody said “hey stop getting arrested and come play football for me”. I did. And it changed my life. He changed my life. The Rock (via X)
In the clip, The Rock paid homage to his former coach, looking up and pointing to the heavens. All in all, The People’s Champion felt grateful for the interaction and moment during his Daytona appearance. Despite his popularity and star power, he has always expressed his humility and gratitude towards those who have helped him.
Currently, the wrestler-turned-actor has made his return to WWE programming. Moreover, The Rock has turned heel and joined forces with his cousin, Roman Reigns, and The Bloodline. In addition to that, he is heavily rumored to compete inside the squared circle for the first time in eight years at WrestleMania 40.
Bully Ray not surprised at WWE Universe “turning” on The Rock
The Rock returned on SmackDown a couple of weeks ago, seemingly snatching away Cody Rhodes‘ WrestleMania main event match against Roman Reigns. However, fan outrage led to WWE changing plans and reverting back to The American Nightmare. Moreover, The Great One turned heel due to receiving negative reactions from the audience. Bully Ray gave his thoughts on the whole storyline and whether he was surprised with the ongoings.
The WWE Hall of Famer spoke in detail about The Rock’s recent run on the Busted Open Radio podcast. Bully Ray claimed that Cody’s momentum was built through his sheer hard work, which earned him the respect and love of fans. As a result, the people turning on The People’s Champion was an inevitability.
[Rhodes has] been doing it the old school way and the right way. I am not surprised at all that people turned on The Rock in almost a heartbeat.Bully Ray on the WWE Universe turning on The Rock (H/T: Wrestling Inc.)
While he believes a Rock vs. Roman match would bring more eyes to the product, the legend mentioned that the timing isn’t right. Obviously, The Brahma Bull had no other option but to concede, turning the off-screen drama into a storyline.
