Former WWE head honcho Vince McMahon is a quirky person, to say the least. Over the years, there have been hundreds of stories that will leave anyone confused by Vinnie Mac’s behavior and habits. Former WWE broadcaster Todd Pettengill shared one such story. He recalled his day of interview at WWE and how his interaction with Mr. McMahon went following the interview.
While talking to Gorilla Position, Pettengill said, “During the interview process, I thought Vince had left the building, so I went to use the bathroom… I turned my mic off, I went into the bathroom and I was going to the bathroom, and there was a fellow in one of the stalls, who had clearly been doing some work, and it was not a pleasant odor. So I, being me, said, ‘Hey, how about a courtesy flush!’ and I hear this laugh… and it was Vince.”
This terrified Pettengill, as he thought there was no chance that he was getting the job now. However, to his surprise, Vince found the incident hilarious and decided to hire Todd. The broadcaster started in WWE in the early 1990s and worked for a few years in the company. Working in WWE in the 90s meant that he had first-hand experience with a lot of unbelievable stories.
Not only did Vince McMahon portray a chaotic boss on-screen during the Attitude Era, but he was also very eccentric in real life. Therefore, superstars like Edge, Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, and many others have shared hilarious stories about Vinnie Mac over the years.
Weird rules that superstars had to follow around Vince McMahon
When Vince McMahon used to run WWE, he had a list of unwritten rules that everyone had to abide by. These rules did not make any sense as superstars could not question them as it might agitate the 78-year-old, resulting in some sort of punishment. On the list of rules, the most prominent one is that Vince McMahon hates it when someone sneezes.
Veterans like Paul Heyman and Stephanie McMahon have confirmed this. Additionally, Vince has also banned the talent from using certain words on WWE programming. Use of words like “pro-wrestler,” “title shot”, and “fans” are not allowed. Instead, the wrestlers are supposed to use “superstar,” “title match,” and “WWE Universe” instead of the banned words.
McMahon has specific rules for superstars in the ring. During promos, they should not look directly into the camera. Additionally, they’re instructed to pose and flex their muscles before making a move, a practice observed even among legends like The Rock, Hulk Hogan, and John Cena. Working with Vince McMahon undoubtedly creates an interesting experience.
