Triple H V/S Booker T
Triple H is one of the biggest wrestlers of all time as he has been excellent in the ring and as well as in the character work. He is a total of fourteen times World Champions and has even won two Royal Rumbles in his whole career. He even won the King of The Ring and even has main evented WrestleMania a lot of times.
One of the times Triple H defended his world title against someone was at WrestleMania 19 where he defended the title against Booker T. the match was good in which both the superstar have given all their skills but the build-up to the match was a lot of controversial. Triple H made a lot of racist comments and the build-up of the match was like to make Booker T a new World Champion.
Recently former WWE Writer Brian Gewirtz revealed that the story was to make Booker T win but the plans got changed when the event got closer everything changed as the match was fourth last on the event and WWE did not want to screw their main event by making World title change hands and people losing interest in the show.
The Main Event of that WrestleMania was The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin it was a mega match that had a lot of build-ups and everybody was not ready for what WWE had planned for that match. So WWE planned a business game where they made Booker T lose the match with a good build-up and made everyone excited for the main event.
Brian said, “I think that the mindset at the time was that it was the title match that was third or fourth last on the card and the moment would be lost in the totality of the show if we pulled the trigger and named a new champion. Now, I’m not saying that was the smart decision or one that I was necessarily in agreement with at the time, but I think that was the mindset.”
Triple H didn’t want to triumph that evening
Triple H even said during an interview that he never wanted to win on that night and he thinks that Booker should have won the match and he should have put him over to build new stars but the WrestleMania 19 had very high-profile matches and WWE did not want this match to be one too.
The high-profile matches which were going to take place were Vince McMahon vs Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold vs The Rock, and Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle for the WWE title in the main event so the impact of this match having Booker T as the winner would have messed up everything.
