Once again, Trish Stratus proved her naysayers wrong to aggravate her legendary status last night at Payback. She faced Becky Lynch in what could be termed the culmination of their long-standing feud. As it turned out, their match was arguably the best of the night. Stratus, despite being 47, took major bumps. Although she ended up losing her first-ever steel cage match, the WWE Hall of Famer won millions of hearts.
Out of frustration, she even lost Zoey Stark‘s assistance, who’s been there for her since Night of Champions. Well, after Z-360 planted her, Stratus picked up her carcass-like body and turned teary. It banged her up pretty badly. The Pittsburgh crowd showed its appreciation for the Canadian legend as she started her descent to the back. Needless to say, this was exactly what she would’ve been missing this entire run as a heel.
Various fan videos confirm that Stratus had gnarly scars all over her body. As seen below in the clip, her forehead developed a dark blue welt. If that was just a flagrant indication of the toil her frame went through, it must be agonizing from the inside. However, she did her best to put Becky Lynch over. One could only imagine how tightly those women would’ve hugged each other in the gorilla position.
In the Steel City, Trish competed in the sixth match of her recent run, a steel cage showdown. Throughout the year, she featured in four premium live events: WrestleMania, Night of Champions, Money in the Bank, and Payback. This marked her longest wrestling phase since retiring as a full-time performer. What a journey for Trish!
Have the WWE fans seen the very last of Trish Stratus?
If what the fans witnessed last night was it for Trish Stratus, then so be it. There’s nothing in her iconic career she would regret. Despite winning numerous World Titles in the past, she had the desire to come back and hang in with the current crop of WWE talent.
That said, Stratus reportedly handpicked Becky Lynch as her opponent before the former’s return in March. Also, the 47-year-old wanted to do a steel cage before her retirement, and she got her wish fulfilled. So, one may feel that there’s nothing left for Canada’s Greatest Export to do in this business anymore.
However, it’s up to her whether she wants to have more matches before hanging up the boots forever. Her versatile body has proved that she could go for longer, and that’s exactly what her latest stint has shown.
