With a lot of contribution to the company, Trish Stratus is truly one of the most established and popular woman to ever step foot in the WWE ring. The former Divas champion has been one of the most inspirational superstars for the current women and her matches have always been a treat to watch. But apart from her stupendous matches and performances, the former Women’s champion has also been a part of some controversial moments including the Chairman, Vince McMahon.
One of the most controversial moments in the women’s history which was featured on WWE TV was when Vince McMahon asked Trish Stratus to strip and then bark like a dog. But before Stratus could completely get her clothes off Vince McMahon changed his mind and saved the day for the Hall of Famer. Not only that but McMahon also gave his coat to the legend to get things right.
Trish Stratus recently appeared on the ‘For the love of wrestling convention’ in Liverpool and revealed details about the initial pitch for the segment. The legend revealed how Vince McMahon hesitantly pitched the whole segment to her and how it evolved her character very much giving her a much needed segment that the world would talk about. Here’s what she said:
“Vince pitched the angle to me like this — ‘so we’re going to have this angle where you are barking like a dog and get really humiliated, and basically hit rock bottom.’ And I was like, ‘amazing!’ Because I knew a couple of weeks later, I would be getting my comeuppance on him and I would be slapping him on the grandest stage of them all, which is Wrestlemania, and turning on him. I was going on to stand up for myself, not needing a man to lean on and fighting for what I needed to fight for.”
“I get questioned about that a lot, and most people go, ‘oh, remember you had to bark like a dog and you had to do that thing that was so degrading, right? For the character, it was, yeah, because that was what the character had to go through. We don’t talk to Halle Barry when she had to get abused by so and so, you know, it’s a character. That, for me, was integral for the character to be at that rock bottom, to have the foresight to say, ‘I can break free from this. I won’t let this happen to me again and let’s move on.’ And you know what? 22 years, we’re still talking about it!”
Trish Stratus could make her return to the squared circle soon
Though the future is still unforseeable, Trish Stratus could make a grand return to the ring for another match at SummerSlam 2022. The Hall of Famer has been having some issues with former Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and had recently slapped the Man during a live event as well. Like SummerSlam 2019, when Stratus returned to face Charlotte Flair in a losing cause, the legend could return to the ring once again regardless of what the result could be.
