Trish Stratus is one of the few Divas in WWE to have as much success as she has. Over the course of her Hall of Fame career, Stratus put on a number of outstanding performances, but one, in particular, got a lot of accolades. Trish Stratus, the seven-time WWE Women’s Champion, revealed on Busted Open Radio which of her matches garnered a standing ovation backstage.
Trish said, “Mickie James, you know, and Trish Stratus’ match at WrestleMania 22 was everything, it really had every component you could ever ask for as a superstar. The best part for me personally, I don’t know about you [Mickie], but when we came out, you know, through the curtain and having all our colleagues there giving us a standing O and giving us that applause was just so gratifying.”
At WrestleMania 22 in Rosemont, Illinois, Mickie James faced Trish Stratus. This was the culmination of a plot that began months ago, with James introducing himself as a Stratus superfan who grew progressively obsessed with her over time, with James’ activities bordering on stalking. James turned heel on Stratus leading up to WrestleMania 22, resulting in their match.

On the largest platform of them all, James overcame the woman she was once fascinated with to win the WWE Women’s Championship. This was James’ first WWE championship win, the first of five Women’s Championship reigns. While in WWE, James would also win the Divas Championship once.
Following her experience with WWE, James moved on to IMPACT Wrestling, formerly known as TNA, where she has won the IMPACT Knockouts Championship four times, most recently defeating Deonna Purrazzo at IMPACT’s “Bound for Glory” premium event in 2021.
James returned to WWE in 2016 as part of the SmackDown brand, where she remained until her dismissal in April 2021, which led to the notorious “Trash Bag Incident.” Stratus last competed in 2019 at “Summerslam,” where she lost to Charlotte Flair. Trish Stratus, despite not stepping into a ring in over three years, is yet to announce her retirement. In 2013, Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
