The Survivor Series is almost here, and the most important component for this year’s event will be the premiere of the WarGames match. Triple H has finally promoted the match from NXT, and this will be the first time we see it on the main roster.
We will see two WarGames matches this year, and they are looking promising. Road Dogg, a WWE Hall of Famer, recently revealed that Triple H wanted to bring the WarGames match to the main roster at Survivor Series, three years before it actually became a reality.
Speaking on his Oh You Did’t Know Podcast, Road Dogg revealed Triple H wanted the men’s Survivor Series match to be a WarGames match for brand supremacy. He pitched the idea to Vince McMahon, but the latter did not find it interesting enough to pull it off.
Road Dogg said, “He’s always wanted to do that. He’s had that in mind, and that’s why we started doing it down there. But yeah, he wanted to do it there. It just wasn’t time yet. And so I don’t disagree with that, we hadn’t had one yet. I don’t think we had had one yet, maybe we had at that point”.
Road Dogg reveals the reason why Vince rejected the War Games’ idea for Survivor Series
However, Road Dogg also discussed the potential reason Vince McMahon did the right thing by rejecting the concept. Vince thought the concept was just two rings merged under a cage, which would not be a good match for the Survivor Series PLE.
Road Dogg agreed with Vince on this, but Triple H’s portrayal of the match this year is also flawless. This year’s Survivor Series matches are built on storylines rather than brand clashes, which is one reason this time, the WarGames match finally made it’s main roster debut.
So far, WWE has done a commendable job of building up Survivor Series, and rest assured, the Triple H-led promotion will look to put its best foot forward. So now, there’s only one thing remaining – Let the WarGames begin!
