Vince McMahon had a common theory about “burying” particular wrestlers, for weird reasons. One of his recent and quite possibly last victims was Gunther. However, days after the Boss made up his mind to dump the Ring General, destiny took Vince McMahon away from WWE, as he retired. Actually, the 77-year old wasn’t impressed after Gunther’s squash on July 4th Raw and hence made the call.
As we stand, the Austrian proudly holds the Intercontinental Championship. He’s been the title holder for over 150 days now. So far in his main-roster run, Gunther has successfully defended his gold against several men including Shinsuke Nakamura, Sheamus, Rey Msyterio and many more. We can even phrase him as the most dominant representative of the Working Man’s title in recent memory.
Now, per a recent report from Give Me Sport, Triple H is really high over the leader of Imperium and considers him as a long-term asset for the company. He’s going to open and close the shows at occasions, that’s exactly what Hunter visualizes in 35-year old, as told to them by WrestleVotes.
“Gunther is going to be around for a long time. He’s got real potential as a heel, and he’s going be here for 10/12 years. He’s going to open some shows, he’s going to close some shows, but he’s just going to be a solid match every night. That’s what Hunters sees in him right now.”
Gunther’s perception of Vince McMahon was complex
Gunther was presented as an unstoppable force upon his SmackDown debut back in April. He consistently dominated local talents for few weeks, before eventually beating Ricochet for the Intercontinental Championship. At that time, Vince McMahon was believed to be “impressed” by The Ring General.
The feeling didn’t lasted long and after one outing on July 4th Monday Night Raw, former Chairman suddenly flipped his thoughts over the Austrian. However, moving forward, we don’t need to worry about Gunther’s booking. The current regime of Triple H knows the worth of their Intercontinental Champion, and would like to continue building him for long.
