With his victory, the Grandson of a Plumber has come one step closer to his dream in WWE.

To everyone’s surprise, it was the men’s Royal Rumble that kicked off the Royal Rumble event. It was the second time ever that two consecutive Royal Rumbles were won by superstars entering the same position as Brock Lesnar also dominated last year’s Rumble from number 30. In the match, Cody Rhodes reprised his rivalry with Seth Rollins, having a brief standoff with the Monday Night Messiah. However, it was Cody and Gunther who made it to the final two. The two competitors at the two extremes of the match, number 1 and 30. The two had a thrilling back-and-forth that kept the fans on the edge of their seats. However, after being in the match for more than 70 minutes, Gunther was eliminated by Rhodes, who won this year’s Royal Rumble match for men. As is the tradition, the event kicked off with a return even before the men’s Rumble could even begin. Former SmackDown commentator Pat McAfee made his way to the WWE commentary desk after four months. The start of the official match, though, saw Gunther and Sheamus, who started the match, reprising their epic rivalry. There was also storyline progression between the feuds of Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar, Edge and The Judgment Day, Dominik and Rey Mysterio, and more. One of the biggest highlights of the match was between Logan Paul and Ricochet, though. Both competitors flew into the sky, jumping over the top rope, and had an epic mid-air collision.

Cody Rhodes and Seth had a mini-match as the final four of Royal Rumble, along with Logan Paul and Gunther. Amidst his battle with the American Nightmare, Rollins was ambushed and then eliminated by Logan, putting an end to his ambitions to headline Mania. As Cody moves forward to his WrestleMania match, the question remains whether he will be able to complete the unfinished business that his father, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, could never do.
