The Wise Man Paul Heyman is one of the most influential figures in all of WWE. The managing veteran has been with the company for decades and has provided his insights backstage as well as on the in-ring talents. His quintessential role as manager for Brock Lesnar started as early as 2002 and continued till 2020 with sheer dominance. This bonding has made him skeptical of the way people say his name in interviews with bare minimum masculinity.
During an interview with Gorilla Position just before SummerSlam 2016, the interviewer stated Paul’s client’s name flippantly. The mention offended Heyman and saw him interrupting the host for the question. The Special Counsel asked permission to correct him and played along with the way the interviewer replied lending the ability to interrupt. Paul said, “I don’t’ like the way you say my client’s name. You’re just throwing his name away like it’s commonplace.”
Heyman asked him to closely listen to the dynamic of Brock’s name and explained the nomenclature. He added, “I mean it’s not like, here’s my son Timmy. Oh, here’s my son, George. It’s BROCK!”. He characterized the name as guttural, violent, aggressive, and competitive, pronounced with full masculinity. Paul emphasized that the name should be said dominantly as “BROCK LESNAR.”
The interviewer then asked whether he could give it a go and announce The Beast Incarnate. Heyman cleverly brought a callback to the conversation and stated, “You can. But you may not.” The interviewer got back to his roots though and poignantly said the name leaving Paul in dismay.
