This happened back in 2008 when the company was hugely invested in the performances and segments of franchise player and former WWE Champion John Cena which eventually led to the ratings coming down.

But the USA Network wanted the ratings to boost up which brought McMahon with an idea to give away money to the people as a part of lottery. The chairman called the segment as Vince McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania and started with a game.
