REVEALED : Real reason why WWE specifically chose Jeff Jarrett as the Special Guest Referee for the Undisputed Tag Team Championship match at Summerslam

Jeff Jarrett and The Usos

WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett was revealed as the Special Guest Referee for the Undisputed Universal Championship match between The Usos vs. The Street Profits at Summerslam this past week on Friday Night Smackdown. The call for adding a guest referee was made after The Street Profits got scrapped off a title victory at Money in the Bank due to a poor officiating decision during the ending moments of the match. Just about when The Usos planted Montez Ford with a One-D, and completed the pin it was later revealed in the replays that Ford’s shoulder was clearly off the mat but due to havoc around the ring, referee didn’t see that and counted them to a loss.

This past week on Smackdown, Angelo Dawkins faced Jey Uso in a singles match and it turned out to be a great outcome for one half of the Streets as he pinned Jey after planting him into the ring, but this time Jey’s shoulders were off the mat as pointed out by Michael Cole and Sami Zayn on commentary. This was exactly how The Usos retained their titles back at Money in the Bank premium live event. Now with Jarrett being brought in to officiate their rematch bout at Summerslam, the contest has suddenly picked up steam as of late.

To those who doesn’t know, WWE recently assigned the role of Senior Vice President for Live Events to Double J. Now, you might be wondering that out of everyone in this world, why only Jeff Jarrett for this job? Well, we have an update regarding this for you.

Providing a heads up on why WWE decided to bring Double J back for this role, Dave Meltzer spoke on his Wrestling Observer Radio and said that it’s completely due to business perspective that caused them to have him on the show. Moreover, Jarrett is a native of Tennessee, the state where Summerslam is taking place and that too at Nissan Stadium in Nashville so bringing him in would make all the sense in this world as he would rather help in generating the buzz in the local market for The Biggest Party of the Year.

Meltzer also noted that WWE still have plenty of seats to move for the event in Nashville and the 55-year old could definitely help them in selling out those.

“The deal is, it’s Nashville. From a national audience standpoint, whatever. But, it’s Jeff Jarrett, you know, again, the Jarrett family in Nashville goes back 55 years.” Meltzer added: “So it’s, you know, I mean, I can see for the Nashville market and he can go do promotion. They still got a lot of seats to fill. I get it, I definitely get it. I don’t know if this is just a one-timer or if they’re going to introduce him as a regular character, but I was very surprised when they announced Jeff Jarrett that he didn’t come out”.
