Without a hitch of doubt, Gunther has been one of the greatest Intercontinental Champions of the past decade. Since capturing that legendary strap last year in June, The Ring General is on the run of a lifetime. For sure, Triple H being the creative lead helped a lot. However, it was the flagitious nature of the Austrian all way long which helped him attain the peak of this mountain.
Adding another feather to his cap, Gunther delivered an IronMan performance in this year’s Royal Rumble match. Lasting for over 70 minutes, the Intercontinental Champion begun at #1 spot and fought till the death. Following the event, entire wrestling community hailed that sublime effort from The Imperium’s leader. But, it’s time for Gunther to move onto much bigger things.
With the days counting down to WrestleMania, Gunther’s opponents for the marquee event has been revealed. According to WrestleVotes, WWE is currently planning to have Gunther defend his gold in a triple-threat match. That being said, he’s likely to battle both Drew McIntyre and Sheamus on that sacred mat at Showcase of the Immortals. While it’s not 100% locked in, this idea is receiving a lot of creative support backstage.

Gunther has been teasing a future match with Brock Lesnar
At one point in last Saturday’s Men’s Rumble, Gunther came face-to-face with Brock Lesnar. Upon realizing the same, the Alamodome came to life for these two goliaths to unleash. However, they didn’t gave their all at once. Obviously the staredown was done to plant seeds for their clash at a future date. By the looks, it’s not going to be WrestleMania this year.
However, it just seems a matter of time before they collide in an official one-on-one match. Many were expecting for them to settle the dust in Los Angeles only. But since Gunther is supposed to put that Working Man’s title on the line in a three-way contest, it’s better that The Ring General escapes Lesnar. Nonetheless, whenever happens, Lesnar vs. Gunther will be an absolute slugfest.
Also with Triple H at the helm, this showdown can be done to put over Gunther in front of the fans. From one Beast of the past to another of the present, a perfect passing of the torch moment might be in the working plans. Also, since their brief meeting at the Rumble, Gunther has been constantly posting their faceoff, indicating his personal interest in The Beast.
