The new year has certainly brought some new beginnings for one of the greatest in-ring technicians walking God’s green earth, Kazuchika Okada. In an official yet-shocking press release by NJPW, the promotion announced that The Rainmaker is set to leave the company after his contract runs out of time on January 31, 2024. The higher-ups also issued an apology to the fans for such a brusque piece of information.

It also added that Okada will work on the dates of NJPW’s New Beginning series that commences this weekend. Judging by the announcement, the Japanese megastar is set to appear in Osaka on February 11 and in Sapporo on February 23 and 24. The 5-time IWGP Champion also issued a heartfelt statement as he closed the book on renewing his deal.

Okada said he’s filled with gratitude and thanked NJPW for morphing him into The Rainmaker from a 19-year-old kid off the plane in Mexico. Now that it’s said and done, the fans on social media are already into it. Calling Okada’s NJPW closure the real bidding war of 2024, many of them are hoping for Triple H to sign Kazuchika Okada to WWE.

However, as per a follow-up from Fightful Select on the entire situation, the WWE sources have not been informed of any such talks. But it was mentioned that they expect the possibility to be explored. On the other hand, the conversations, though brief, have already taken place between Okada and AEW. As of now, there’s no concrete evidence of The Rainmaker’s next destination.

Fans are leaning towards Kazuchika Okada’s WWE debut

As apparent from the flooded responses on social media, the fans have already started making some dream scenarios should Okada sign with WWE. A fan posted a couple of images of Okada’s NJPW encounters with AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura and hoped they would come true in WWE.

There were an abundance of posts calling for Triple H to pounce on the 36-year-old wrestler. Another one pointed out how it’s in Okada’s best interest to leave NJPW at this point in his career. While some fans thought that NJPW’s poster boy would be a natural fit for AEW, arguments were made that WWE is by far a more intriguing option.

Considering he’s already wrestled enough in AEW, there are plenty of first-time-ever matchups for Okada in WWE. A fan even said that his showdown against Gunther would be the greatest match of all time.
