The wrestling world came together on Sunday to celebrate the legacy of wrestling legend Sting. The 64-year-old star retired as champion at AEW Revolution 2024 alongside Darby Allin. Sting remained undefeated in his final battle against The Young Bucks. Various wrestling promotions congratulated The Vigilante on his retirement. What’s surprising is that the WWE didn’t join in to acknowledge the event. However, this changed on Raw.

“Dirty” Dominik Mysterio collided with “The Ring General” Gunther on this week’s Raw. During their match, commentator, Michael Cole mentioned The Stinger. Cole stated that the veteran had finally retired and thanked him for all the memories. He ended his shout-out by congratulating him on behalf of the WWE.

WWE joined in with the wrestling world to celebrate one of the greatest legacies of wrestling. Also, TNA, another wrestling promotion, sent a farewell message to Sting. It is surprising to witness Sting’s mention since WWE barely mentions any other promotion’s wrestlers. It was interesting to witness them name-dropping The Icon’s name mid-match.

The AEW Superstar has had a short yet interesting WWE career. Sting got to face Triple H and Seth “Freakin” Rollins in his short tenure. Later, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame and retired for the first time after getting injured in his match with Rollins. However, Sting disclosed about his desire to wrestle The Undertaker during his time in the WWE before his final match on AEW.

Multiple WWE legends were present for Sting’s final match

Sting had been wrestling from 1985 to 2024. Therefore, he has wrestled with different generations, spanning from the likes of The Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan to the Young Bucks. This proves how long his storied career had been until his retirement. Various WWE legends, including Ric Flair and Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat appeared at AEW Revolution to witness the undefeated champion’s last match.

Apart from Flair and Steamboat, Lex Luger, Magnum TA, and DDP were present to support The Icon in his final match. Another WWE legend, Kevin Nash, appeared on an episode of Kliq THIS and revealed how he wanted to watch Sting in his final match but was seemingly denied by WWE. Although Nash is retired, he is signed to the WWE under a “Legends” contract, which didn’t allow him to appear at the PPV.

Despite The Stinger retiring as a champion, Tony Khan revealed Sting would stay with the AEW. Moreover, he added that the duo of him and Darby Allin would vacate the AEW World Tag Team Championships, and a new tournament would begin to crown new champions. Only time will tell what is next for The Vigilante.
