When Nick Khan said that he wanted to hold a WWE show in every part of the world, he wasn’t lying. With the recent announcement of Germany’s first-ever premium live event, Bash in Berlin, WWE might have already finalized a city for next year’s SummerSlam. Having said that, it’s not going to be outside of the United States.
It would be a setback for those who wanted to see The Biggest Party of the Summer go international. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Cleveland, Ohio, is the front-runner to become the host of SummerSlam 2024. Though the report didn’t specify a particular venue for the event, the Cleveland Browns Stadium is an obvious bet.
It has a listed capacity of over 67,000 fans and could be expanded further. If Cleveland does get the opportunity to host SummerSlam, it will be a long time coming. The city is one of the best wrestling markets, and fans turn up in numbers whenever WWE holds a show over there. Current Raw superstar Johnny Gargano is a Cleveland native and would be hoping to get on the card if SummerSlam lands in the largest city of Lake Erie.
Since 2021, WWE has adopted a different policy for their “Big 4” premium live events. Previously confined to limited-capacity indoor arenas, WWE held events in football stadiums to accommodate as many people as they could. This year at the Ford Field in Detroit, SummerSlam drew well over 50,000 fans, and the show was an overall success. WWE will be hoping to better that mark when they possibly land in Cleveland next year.
Does WWE have plans to keep Roman Reigns as the champion till SummerSlam 2024?
At present, Roman Reigns is behind Hulk Hogan‘s World Title reign of 1,474 days. Having surpassed over 1150 days with gold on his shoulders, the Tribal Chief would need almost another year to pip The Hulkster. However, the fans are already moaning about the stalemate nature of Roman’s reign.
It would be a choice to make for WWE come WrestleMania 40. As suspected from the on-screen teases, Cody Rhodes is well on his course to challenge Roman Reigns at the Philadelphia spectacle next year. The American Nightmare has already tried and failed once. Thus, he cannot afford to fumble the ball yet again.
If WWE does let Rhodes finish the story at Mania next year, Roman will fall short of Hogan’s record. Going by the recent track record, the company wants to update its history books. It would be a hard call on either side of things for WWE. However, it’s not certain whether the fans would stick around Roman being the champion by the time SummerSlam arrives in 2024.
