It was a hell of a weekend for the pro-wrestling fandom as they witnessed WWE’s Night of Champions on Saturday, May 27. Further, WWE’s NXT Battleground and the rival company AEW’s Double or Nothing were happening at the same time on the 28th of May. Fans enjoyed the Saturday event but now had to make a decision to watch either Battleground or Double or Nothing, with both being highly entertaining.

Amidst the chaos of indecision, a fan present at T-Mobile Arena for Double or Nothing found a clever way to deal with the situation. As the viral clip of the fan showcases, the person was seen watching NXT Battleground on his mobile while sitting at the AEW event. This video even caught the attention of WWE, and they seemed to like it. They liked it to the extent that they sarcastically referenced it during the weekly NXT show.

The opening match of NXT saw Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin battle it out in a weaponized steel cage match. Fans had all their attention on the match with peculiar stipulations. Regarding this, the announcer mentioned nobody is on their phone because of the incredible matchup, and nothing else has diverted their attention.

Another reference to the incident was made during a planned segment by Reggie and Axiom. Backstage, Reggie saw Axiom watching something interesting on his phone. He questioned Axiom about whether he was watching NXT Battleground, to which he even agreed. This small mention was noticed by NXT fans and taken in a hilarious manner.

During WWE Draft 2023, Mustafa Ali was not drafted to any brand but was given the position of a free agent. Ali won the battle royale on RAW, to challenge Gunther at Night of Champions. He then battled The Ring General but came out unsuccessful. The free agent of WWE made his way into NXT before the tag team matchup of The Dyad against Wes Lee and Tyler Bate.

Ali came through the audience and gained cheers when the matchup was yet to start. Mustafa later came in to save Lee and Bate from The Schism leader Joe Gacy. Ali stood still, with the North American Champion and Bate raising their hands, showcasing their victory. Mustafa Ali last appeared on NXT when he participated in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic back in 2016.

To fans’ surprise, NXT saw two returns from the main roster this week. Baron Corbin also made his way to NXT to attack Carmelo Hayes after his title defense. The Lone Wolf’s aim seems to be on the NXT Champion, while Ali’s target is yet to be revealed on the yellow brand.
