Despite a huge fanbase in India, WWE rarely holds big shows in the country. The last time it came to the subcontinent was in 2017, when it held a house show at the Indira Gandhi New Stadium in New Delhi. Ever since then, the fans have been longing to see the Stamford-based promotion tour in India. It looks like WWE has finally heard the voices of the 1.4 billion people in the nation.
While speaking at the Moffet Nathason conference talk, WWE CEO Nick Khan revealed that WWE will come back to India this September. The company is set to organize a live event in the Indian subcontinent after six long years. Wrestle Ops, who is one of the trusted sources, confirmed the news in a tweet. While there’s not much update about it yet, the news surely rang a symphony to the Indian fans.
The location and date of the event are not yet confirmed. WWE is likely to announce it officially soon and provide a clear picture to the fans. Whether it’s a house show or a premium live event, it’s still unclear. Without a doubt, WWE has one of the most passionate fan bases in India. The WWE Universe in India is on the edge of their seats to witness their favorite superstars in the country.
WWE has been conducting multiple international events in recent times. The company went beyond the United States and held events in Canada, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and Puerto Rico. WWE had huge plans to launch “NXT India” at some point. However, the company had to postpone the plans due to the pandemic. WWE also decided to organize a house show in the country last year in Hyderabad. The plan was potentially called off due to the merger between Sony and Zee. Besides, the Stamford-based promotion has been signing various Indian talents in recent times.
WWE organized the Superstar Spectacle in 2021, which is an exclusive show for the Indian audience featuring all Indian wrestlers.
