WWE NXT results – 13/01/2021 (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, New challenge for Finn Balor)

This was the first episode of WWE NXT following the New Year’s Evil. The Dusty Rhodes Tag team Classic took place to determine the contenders for the WWE NXT Tag team Championship.

Candice LeRae def. Shotzi Blackheart

LeRae tried to jaw jack Blackheart at the start of the match, but Blackheart was able to defend herself. The Tank girl managed to continue her dominance for a major part of the match. But LeRae managed to catch her breath from the attacks as she got hold of the ropes.

The action continued outside the ring, as Blackheart hit a flying knee off the top rope. Indi Hartwell, who had been standing at the ringside came to her rescue. She distracted Blackheart. But Blackheart managed to counter her too. She sent both of them into the barricades with a Suicide Dive.

As the match progressed, Hartwell distracted Blackheart again. She provided the opportunity to LeRae to hit a Wild Ride and pick up the win.

Finn Balor’s segment

WWE NXT Champion Finn Balor walked out to the ring. He praised his opponent, Kyle O’Reilly for their brutal match last week. Balor has defeated him twice now. Balor asked who was next. Pete Dunne’s music hits.

Dunne is accompanied by the Tag team Champions. They attack the Champion. But Balor is able to fight off all the three men. The Undisputed Era, including O’Reilly ran out to help Balor.

NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag team Classic: Grizzled Young Veterans def. Ever-Rise

Matt Martel and Chase Parker tried to gain advantage in the match with some horrible trash-talk. But their strategy failed miserably.

Gibson and Drake from the GYV continued to save each other from pinfalls. They jointly hot a Ticket to Mayhem onto Matt Martel, to pick up the win. Ever-Rise are knocked out of the tournament.

Johnny Gargano def. Austin Theory

The North American Champion tore Dexter Lumis’ drawing. Lumis was infuriated. Lumis was also having an unorthodox offense.

Dexter even countered the attacks from Gargano quite well. He went for a Swanton Bomb, but Gargano escaped. Austin Theory who had been standing by the ringside, distracted Lumis. But he was Trapped in Silence.

Theory was knocked out. Gargano capitalized and pulled Lumis down with a schoolboy. The North American Champion won via pinfall.

NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag team Classic: MSK def. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas

Atlas and Swerve have put their Cruiserweight Championship hopes on hold. They are currently focusing on this tournament. MSK are the Rasclaz from IMPACT Wrestling.

MSK are debuting on the WWE roster. They managed to debut in a huge way with a win over the two of the best Cruiserweights in WWE.  They hit a brilliant spinebuster-running blockbuster combination to pick up the win.

Xia Li def. Local Competitor

Li dropper her opponent with a fast right hand. She hit a rolling heel kick on the head to pick up another dominating win.

NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag team Classic: The Undisputed Era def. Breezango

Adam Cole started the match with Tyler Breeze. They go back and forth. They continued with vicious attacks.

Soon all the four men got in the ring and an all-out brawl broke out. The four men are knocked out inside the ring. Pete Dunne, Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan walk out to the ring. They kick his jaw through the steel stairs.

NXT Champion Finn Balor walked out. Cole took advantage of the brawl going outside and super kicked Fandango, while he leaped off the top rope. Undisputed Era knock out Breezango out of the tournament.

Pete Dunne has reinjured Kyle O’Reilly’s jaw. Dunne and NXT Tag Team Champs taunt them from the stage, as the show ends.
