WWE NXT results – 20/04/2021 (Sarray debuts, New challenger for Karrion Kross)

KOR and Grimes

The show kicked off with the return of Kyle O’Reilly. He was last seen on NXT, two weeks ago in a forty-minute unsanctioned match against Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

Kyle O’Reilly returns

KOR and Grimes

KOR mentioned that he felt good that he was finally done with Adam Cole. He was ready to get back to what was important and prove that he was the best in NXT.

He said that to succeed on the NXT brand, superstars needed a killer instinct and KOR found it at TakeOver when he broke his former best friend. He hinted that he was going to go after Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship.

KOR was interrupted by Cameron Grimes. The Thousand Dollar Man congratulated KOR for his win. He said he had put his money on KOR and earned a ton of money.

Grimes wanted to make some more money with KOR and a Kool Kyle chant picked up. KOR said Grimes was a genius and thanked him.

KOR said that he was cleared to fight but he promised that Grimes won’t be his first opponent as they were business associates. Grimes looked confused as KOR took him down with a right hand.

LA Knight def. Dexter Lumis

Hartwell, Lumis and Knight

As the match began, Lumis took Knight down with a jackknife. But Knight managed to pull through and started talking some trash, but was locked in The Silence. Knight went to the apron and hit a slingshot shoulder tackle.

Knight drove Lumis into the barricade and dropped him on the apron. Lumis somehow recovered and hit a running bulldog followed by a belly-to-back supley/leaping leg drop combination.

The match again went outside the ring, and Knight gained control. Lumis was distracted by Indi Hartwell. Knight tried to get between them but was taken down by the slingshot double axe handle.

Lumis was too infatuated by Hartwell as Knight dropped him with a headlock driver for the win. After the match, Lumis and Hartwell were about to kiss as The Way stopped Hartwell.

Franky Monet interrupts Io Shirai

Io Shirai was interviewed by Beth Phoenix. They discussed the night where Shirai won her NXT Women’s Championship and how her 300+ day reign came to an end at Stand & Deliver.

Raquel Gonzalez has agreed that Shirai was her toughest challenge and she will get a rematch soon. Before they could continue, Franky Monet interrupted them.

Monet gushed over Phoenix. She also promised to Shirai that she will fill her shoes while she was away resting. Shirai didn’t like it. She stared at Monet’s dog and said she liked cats.

Grizzled Young Veterans def. Breezango

GYV and Breezango

Breezango were dressed as the Queen’s Royal Guards. The Grizzled Young Veterans took offense to the portrayal.

Tyler Breeze worked on the arm of Zack Gibson before tagging in Fandango. He battered Gibson with punches and chops but was hit by a suplex. James Drake tagged in but a pair of running kicks sent him and Gibson to the floor.

James Drake injured his left knee on a dive. The NXT official looked into the injury, but as soon as he was distracted, Gibson poked Fandango in the eyes.

GYV hit their flatliner/missile dropkick combo. But Fandango managed to get back to his partner, and Breeze took on the Grizzled Young Veterans successfully in a two-on-one situation. Unfortunately he missed a tag between his opponents, and GYV hit the Ticket to Mayhem for the win.

Sarray def. Zoey Stark

Stark and Sarray

Sarray was debuting on NXT against one of the brand’s shining new stars, Zoey Stark. Stark brought Sarray down with her power advantage. Every time Zoey took her to the mat, though, Sarray slid out of her grasp.

A running dropkick took Stark down, and Sarray got a Muta Lock. Stark broke away. A suplex slammed Sarray in the middle of the mat, and a series of elbows to the neck. Sarray fought back and sent Stark to the floor.

Stark caught Sarray with a series of running kicks and knee strikes but missed the 450 Splash. A spinning heel kick and forearm from Sarray set Stark up for a sleeper suplex for the win.

After the match, Tony Storm blindsided Zoey Stark and sent her headfirst into the steel structure. Sarray unsuccessfully tried to make the save.

Kushida def. Oney Lorcan (retains Cruiserweight Championship)

Lorcan and Kushida

Kushida’s open challenge was answered by Oney Lorcan. Lorcan tried to attack, but Kushida locked him in a cross armbreaker.

Lorcan lifted himself up on the ropes but Kushida dropped his knee onto the extremity, setting up for that Hoverboard Lock. Lorcan countered with his running uppercut and a running blockbuster.

Kushida attacked the injured arm, and after a series of kicks and the Hoverboard lock helped him win via submission. After the match, LGD attacked Kushida from behind, as Santos Escobar watched from the ramp. But the Tag Team Champions, MSK, made the save.

Imperium def. Ever-Rise

Ever-Rise and Imperium

Imperium dominated Ever-Rise for most of the match. Fabian Aichner demolished Matt Martel early on before Chase Parker tagged in. Aichner cut off his momentum and tagged in Marcel Barthel. Imperium hit their baseball dropkick combination but Killian Dain came in as a distraction.

Drake Maverick ran in as well, trying to attack Alexander Wolfe. Dain caught his partner and threw him to the back. Imperium ignored the distraction and hit the European Bomb on Parker for the win.

Kyle O’Reilly def. Cameron Grimes

Kyle O’Reilly used his mat prowess to his advantage, repeatedly taking Grimes down. O’Reilly worked over the arm of Cameron, looking to disarm him. Grimes set up for an early Cave In. But it was not the best choice as O’Reilly brought him down again with an arm breaker.

A cross-arm breaker was countered as Grimes rolled through. O’Reilly went for an over-the-shoulder arm breaker but Grimes gouged his eyes followed by a German suplex. Grimes amped up the pressure on the back and neck.

Grimes escaped submission hold before spinning O’Reilly out with a spin-out sidewalk slam. KOR dazed Grimes with a pop-up knee strike which was countered by a Superman forearm. A superkick sent O’Reilly into the ropes where he rebounded with a wicked clothesline.

Another combination and brainbuster set O’Reilly up for the flying knee to the back of the head for the win.
