Paul Heyman’s backstage reaction when a heel Superstar turned babyface with a single promo
Reigns with Heyman and Uso
There is no one better than Paul Heyman in the whole professional wrestling industry when it comes to cutting promos. It is predictably quite difficult to impress the legend on the mic. But New Jack managed to impress Heyman in a promo that could be remembered for the ages.
New Jack recently passed away at the age of 48, due to a heart attack. He did some of the best work of his career in ECW, which was headed by Paul Heyman. Jack had been a vicious Heel for a major part of his career, which began in Jim Cornette’s Smoky Mountain Wrestling.
He continued a similar Heel character on Heyman’s ECW. But his one promo changed it all. The promo was discussed in New Jack’s final interview with Vinny Vegas on the PTM podcast. Jack mentioned that Heyman had immediately predicted that the promo will turn Jack into a babyface.
“Paulie came to me when that was over; he said, ‘You understand what you just did right.’ And I said no, ‘What?’ He said, ‘You just turned yourself into a f***ing babyface.’ You know what I mean? He said if you went out there and had sex with a ninety-year-old white woman, he said, ‘the fans would cheer you. He said ain’t no taking it back, he said, ain’t there nothing we could do. He said, ‘You are a f******* face now, so deal with it,” mentioned New Jack.
New Jack’s this particular promo is considered to be one of the best ever on ECW shows. It was filled with profanity and the fact that Jack was returning from a brief stint in jail made it more appealing. The intense promo included call-outs to Eric Bischoff, WCW and even WWE. The spontaneous segment had the crowd erupting with chants of “New Jack”.
Paul Heyman still delivers intense promos
Paul Heyman is one of the rare gems who delivers promos which are always better than the last one. But his most recent promo on the latest episode of WWE Smackdown has been receiving rave reviews from the WWE Universe.
Roman Reigns had accompanied Paul Heyman to the ring for the Parade of Champion ceremony. The Tribal Chief called himself a humble man and authorized Heyman to celebrate him.
Heyman covered Reigns’ entire journey since returning at WWE Summerslam 2020 in a single promo. His talent has brushed onto Reigns too, as the Big Dog too has been consistently delivering great promos.
