Latest Update on WWE’s plan regarding the Unified WWE Universal Championship
Undisputed WWE Universal Champion
Roman Reigns made history at the Night Two of the most stupendous Wrestlemania of all time as he beat Brock Lesnar in the biggest Wrestlemania match and Unified both, WWE and the Universal Championship which is now being called the Unified WWE Universal Championship. Long before WrestleMania, it was claimed that WWE had no plans to unify the two belts and would just introduce a new one to ensure that both nights had top prizes.
WWE still isn’t sure as to where they are heading with the top prize
But, according to Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men Podcast, it’s not even clear as to what’s next. He said, “As far as I know, and this is something I was told, it hasn’t been decided yet on how they’re doing this. Like, the concept of how they’re going to do this unified title thing, I don’t think they’ve decided if he’s going to be on Raw every week or every other week. It hasn’t been set yet. They’re working all this out right now on how they’re going to play this out.”
Randy Orton united the WWE and World Heavyweight Belts in 2013, which was the last occasion WWE unified the two world championships. A new championship belt wasn’t announced until the following year, and a new world title (the Universal Championship) wasn’t revealed until the summer of 2016. However, that original unification occurred when NBC Universal broadcasted both Raw and SmackDown without any form of brand separation. SmackDown is now aired on FOX, and the brand split has been in place since 2016.
Shinsuke Nakamura is the potential next challenger for the Unified WWE Universal Championship
On Smackdown Live, The Bloodline debuted their much-anticipated ‘next step.’ In terms of the Tribal Chief, he stated that there is nothing else for him to accomplish now that he owns both Raw and Smackdown as well as the Unified WWE Universal Championship. The Usos just hold the Smackdown Tag Titles, so there’s still something for the Bloodline to accomplish. After that, Reigns asked his cousins to go to Raw and take RKBro’s Raw Tag Titles. Shinsuke Nakamura, to everyone’s amazement, showed up.
The most likely reason for this is that WrestleMania Backlash is not a large premium live event, and Roman Reigns is doubtful to drop his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Even a non-title match with the most ‘over’ man in pro wrestling is a major step up for Nakamura.
