WWE planning a massive change for Elimination Chamber

Elimination Chamber

Elimination Chamber is considered to be one of the most WWE pay per views of the year. The event gets its name from a concept match – which is contested inside the giant steel chamber. Usually featuring two Chamber matches – the Superstars who emerge victorious often win Championships, or atleast Championship opportunities.

The match features around six participants – two Superstars kick off the match, with four participants being locked in individual smaller chambers, insider the Elimination Chamber. Every five minutes, a Superstar joins in, and continues till all participants are eliminated via pinfall or submission. Due to the dangerous design of the Chamber, the event was considered to be the most brutal event.

Recent reports suggest that WWE is considering renaming of this iconic event. As per Dave Meltzer the event could be named as “Wrestlemania Chamber”. The reason for this change is that the term “Elimination Chamber” has different connotations in different countries. In fact, the event is advertised under a different name in Germany.

While there is no official announcement on the name change, we have another announcement regarding the event as well. The company is reportedly planning to take this iconic event to Saudi Arabia this year. WWE will be returning to Saudi Arabia in February and it is reported that they not only plan to host a PPV – but an episode of Smackdown too.

The event was established in 2010, as a replacement to then February event – No Way Out. But this was not an entirely new concept. The concept of these matches were witnessed way back in 2002 and it just got its own event in 2010.

Since the inception of the event, it did not take place in the year 2016. In 2018. The first ever Women’s match took place inside the Elimination Chamber. The name of the event has been synonymous with the brutality of the event – but the decision to change the name seems to be taken after considering the fact that WWE is a global brand.
