It looks like CM Punk is going to bash Drew McIntyre in Berlin. Last night on Raw, tensions escalated between them. The Scot was blindsided by Punk. After scuffling with Drew for a while, The Best in the World managed to unhook the belt off McIntyre’s jeans. What followed was a whiplash before Drew escaped by the skin of his teeth.
It’s now being reported by Ibou of WrestlePurists that WWE is planning a strap match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre at Bash in Berlin. After forging McIntyre through a belt treatment on Raw, Punk was stopped by Cathy Kelley for a backstage interview. When asked whether he lied about his travel issues to the arena, Punk said yes.
In fact, Cathy and Punk were on the same flight to the show, as both confirmed. But why did the Chicagoan feed the wrong info to general manager Adam Pearce about his whereabouts? As he affirmed, The Second City Saint was aware of the fact that McIntyre would’ve fled the building if he hadn’t lied to Pearce. The 45-year-old made amends for his previous mistakes and was able to catch Drew off guard.
Speaking of his bracelet that Drew has, the former AEW star said that the latter could keep it with himself. However, he’s going to pay for disrespecting the two names that are inscribed on it, viz., AJ Lee and his dog Larry.
After the show, The Scottish Warrior posted an image of welts that had developed on his back from that vicious assault from Punk. This rivalry has just gone up a notch. Apart from the rumored strap match, they’re destined to collide inside Hell in a Cell at next month’s Bad Blood PLE as well.
CM Punk’s WWE comeback trail has been a hit
The way things have panned out for CM Punk since his WWE return last year has been nothing short of a miracle. Not only has he mended a ton of fences, but Punk’s standing within the top brass of the company has also been in high regard.
Recently, following his loss at SummerSlam, The Straight Edge Superstar was caught sharing an emotional moment with Stephanie McMahon as they hugged it out. Punk has already stressed that Vince McMahon‘s WWE ouster paved the way for his comeback after being away for almost a decade.
Moreover, he’s now looking to be with WWE for the rest of his in-ring career. Both parties were believed to be working on extending Punk’s contract beyond its expiration date, which is currently November 2026.
