In Short
  • Dana White aims to modernize boxing with a centralized organization and the Muhammad Ali Boxing Revival Act.
  • WWE President Nick Khan is recognized as a key figure in Zuffa Boxing's strategic direction and expansion.
  • Concerns about boxer protections were raised during a Senate hearing on the Muhammad Ali Act, with Khan presenting a unified stance.

Dana White has made his plan to venture into boxing clear from the start, aiming to modernize the sport with updated structures and a unified promotional model. He has also outlined plans to build a centralized boxing organization. The proposed Muhammad Ali Boxing Revival Act remains a key part of that shift. In that context, Ariel Helwani discussed WWE President Nick Khan’s impact on Zuffa Boxing.

Khan is the President of WWE and a key business figure at TKO Group Holdings, the parent company formed after WWE’s merger with the UFC. Known for his role in major media rights deals and corporate strategy, Khan has become a central executive voice in combat sports. He has worked closely with White under the TKO structure, with both involved in advancing the company’s expansion into boxing.

A recent Senate hearing examined proposed changes to the original Muhammad Ali Act, drawing figures from across combat sports. Oscar De La Hoya and Nico Ali Walsh stood against the revisions, citing concerns around boxer protections. In contrast, Nick Khan presented a unified stance on behalf of Zuffa Boxing. Following the hearing, Helwani shared insights he gathered from reviewing the session.

I respect Oscar and Nico for fighting for what they believe in, but that wasn’t a fair fight. The star of the hearing was Nick Khan and it wasn’t close, and not unexpected. As I’ve said for the past 6 years: he’s one of the smartest businessmen I’ve ever met, always three steps ahead. That was on display. He’s the real brains behind Zuffa Boxing and as long as he’s involved they will be a force and successful. (I don’t believe TKO is his end goal either: He will do much greater things in the future.) The Ali Revival Act legislation will no doubt be passed, and then it gets real interesting for boxers and promoters in the US.

The Muhammad Ali Act is a federal law enacted in 2000 to protect boxers by increasing financial transparency, limiting coercive contracts, and separating promoters from managers. White has indicated that Zuffa Boxing plans to introduce a parallel version of the framework with amendments. Under that structure, fighters would have the option to choose which version of the Act they wish to operate under.

Another major figure in these developments is Turki Alalshikh, who has emerged as a visible partner alongside Dana White and Khan in the evolving boxing landscape. As chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, he has overseen major boxing events and funded multiple cards featuring top fighters. He played a direct role in reshaping the sport’s global stage and aligning with structural changes.

The developments around the Muhammad Ali Act continue to draw scrutiny as the sport moves toward a structural change. Ariel Helwani has raised concerns about Dana White’s focus on the UFC, citing a series of underwhelming announcements in recent months. At the same time, Nick Khan remains central to the Zuffa Boxing push. As discussions continue, the Muhammad Ali Act’s long-term impact remains uncertain.

Dana White shuts down claims of the UFC White House event being too political

The upcoming UFC White House event has drawn major attention, largely due to the long-standing relationship between Dana White and US President Donald Trump. The two have maintained a friendship for years, with White frequently appearing at Trump’s rallies over time. Trump has also been a consistent supporter of the UFC, often attending events and publicly backing the promotion.

The event, now called UFC Freedom 250, has become a major talking point as the first MMA card to be held on the White House grounds. Its setup has raised questions about political influence, particularly given the lack of traditional ticket sales. Audiences are instead expected to watch via Jumbotron screens outside the venue. Amid the speculation, Dana White has clarified that the event is not politically aligned.

You can be far left, far right or straight down the middle. This is the 250th birthday of America. We are going to tell the story and history of America. Most of the people of the 4000 that will be there will be military from every branch. We could end up having 85,000 people at the Ellipse. We already have over 70,000 people that have registered to get a ticket.

As preparations continue, the UFC has released a registration link for fans interested in attending public screenings outside the venue. Dana White has indicated that access will be free of cost. With a reported $60 million budget, the scale points toward a landmark showcase. Scheduled for June 14, the White House card remains one of the promotion’s most ambitious undertakings.
