Swerve Strickland recently lost his AEW World Championship to Bryan Danielson at AEW All Out. However, he will get a chance to win it again as he recently signed a new deal with the Jacksonville-based company. Some reports suggest that the 33-year-old wrestler signed the deal during the zero-hour portion of All Out. The details revealed about the contract shocked many fans.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Swerve Strickland has signed a five-year contract with AEW. He will stay with the Jacksonville-based company until September 2029. It was reported that the former AEW World Champion had already signed the deal weeks before All In PPV, but it was saved to make it a major talking point after the London event.
Meltzer revealed that the deal was one of the biggest in pro wrestling today. It was directly compared to those of wrestlers like Mercedes Mone and Kazuchika Okada, as well as Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Randy Orton in WWE. The Stamford-based company’s reaction to this deal was interesting, to say the least, as they deemed it bad for the sport. They believed Tony Khan was spending much more than necessary on salaries.
The King of Swerve recently lost his title to Bryan Danielson after holding it for 113 days. The match was hard-hitting, and in the final moments of an intense main event, the submission specialist made the champ tap out with a LeBell Lock. The 33-year-old wrestler will face ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in a steel cage match after the latter interfered in his title match.
Jinder Mahal supported Swerve Strickland in the whole situation with a message on social media
There is a lot of controversy surrounding Swerve Strickland’s new contract details. While WWE deemed it a ‘bad deal’ for the sport, many fans opposed the Stamford-based company and stated that he deserved it. Now, along with fans, former WWE superstar Jinder Mahal has also expressed his firm opinion about the situation.
The Modern Day Maharaja took to X and sent a message urging wrestling companies to normalize paying wrestlers what they deserve. With that fitting reply, he also took a dig at WWE for objecting to the deal. The Stamford-based company released him, along with Veer Mahan and Sanga, in April of this year.

The former WWE Champion made a surprise appearance at Game Changer Wrestling’s So High event in Illinois. He attacked GCW fan favorite Effy and shocked the wrestling world. Recently, Raj Dhesi reunited with The Singh Brothers and wrestled in a six-man tag team match a week ago, which they unfortunately lost.
