“A hero, an antihero and a villain”: The Rock reveals why Black Adam’s story is important
Black Adam
The Rock is one of the biggest global stars. He started his career as a football player and even won the National Championship in 1991. But he decided to pursue a career in professional wrestling, after he went undrafted in the 1995 NFL Draft. Dwayne Johnson comes from the great wrestling family of Anoaí.
Johnson was signed by WWE (then known as WWF) in 1996. He worked for the company for nearly a decade and went on to become one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. But in 2004 he left the company to pursue a career in Hollywood. But since then he has continued to make sporadic appearances for WWE.
Today, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the highest earning as well as the highest grossing actors in the world. But it took him a long time to jump on the bandwagon of the Superhero genre. While he was earlier in talks to play the role of Shazam, but he was more interested in playing the role of Black Adam.
Black Adam is slated to release later this year, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson playing the titular character. Considering all the production hurdles that the movie has been through, Black Adam is a long awaited blockbuster. Johnson appeared for an interview with Men’s Journal where he mentioned the importance of the origin story of his character.
“With Black Adam, depending on how you look at him, he has the ability to be a hero, an antihero, and a villain. One of the things that drew me to Black Adam is his origin. He started out enslaved. Any time you have a character, or any human being, who has wrongfully been held down by others, it means so much more when they begin to rise up. Black Adam rises with a big f**king chip on his shoulder,” mentioned Dwayne Johnson.
