Miss Elizabeth was considered the First Lady of Wrestling.
Savage with Miss Elizabeth
Miss Elizabeth is considered to be the “First Lady of Wrestling.” Years before being introduced to the world of professional wrestling, Elizabeth Ann Hulette had met Randy Savage. They married each other in 1984 and this was revealed in the “Match Made in Heaven” kayfabe wedding in 1991, at Madison Square Garden.
But in 1992 Savage and Elizabeth got divorced and the same year, Miss Elizabeth’s WWE run came to an end. She then moved on to WCW for a brief stint, where she associated herself with some of the powerful factions – The Four Horsemen, the New World Order, and also the Team Package.
While she was with the Team Package (Ric Flair and Lex Luger), she started dating Luger. They left the company in 2000, and the toxic romance continued (including an incident of domestic violence). It is believed that the romance ultimately led to her death at the age of 42.
On April 30th, 2003, Elizabeth stopped breathing and was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead the next day. The cause of death was officially announced to be a mixture of painkillers, nausea medication, tranquilizers, and alcohol. She had a blood alcohol level of 0.29. Any level at or above 0.08 Is legally impaired and above 0.25 is considered to be alcohol poisoning.
Upon investigation, Luger was arrested on several counts, for which he pleaded guilty – but none of these charges were for Elizabeth’s death. Her death was later ruled as “accidental.”
