“Messed up my whole career”: Former WWE Champion recalls his first meeting with Vince McMahon

McIntyre and McMahon

Vince McMahon is one of the most powerful personalities in the professional wrestling industry. Currently serving as the CEO and Chairman of WWE, he has been at the helm of the company since the last four decades. He has made the company a global brand and today the WWE shows are available in over 900 million homes worldwide.

But he is also infamous for being a control freak. The Superstars on his roster are often scared of him. There have been several instances where he has completely changed the flow of live televised shows at the last moment and there have also been several instances where Superstars have completely been buried in middle of their pushes.

Superstars often aim to impress the WWE CEO and Chairman whenever they get a chance to interact with him. But there have been instances where the first impressions of the Superstars have been really awkward with Vince McMahon. Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre too had a really weird first meeting with the boss.

During an appearances with Ryan Satin on the Out of Character show, McIntyre revealed his first interaction with McMahon. “On my first day on the road. I sat in catering and I remember he sat in front of me and I panicked. I introduced myself, he knew who I was. He gave me some advice and I mumbled some stuff in my very thick Scottish accent, especially back then. He stood up, nodded, walked off and I thought I just messed up my whole WWE career,” mentioned McIntyre.

Just few months after debuting on WWE, Vince McMahon had introduced Drew McIntyre as a “future world Champion”. Initially it seemed like the company would push him massively, but without winning the World title, McIntyre was released from the company.

But the Scottish Warrior worked hard and returned for an iconic run. McIntyre was massively pushed in 2020 – where he won the Royal Rumble, pinned Brock Lesnar in a Wrestlemania main event and was the Champion for a major part of the year. Recently, he is again trying to work his way up the card.
