The civil war between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso took an interesting turn on the latest episode of SmackDown. Fans expected the match between the two to be finalized on the episode, but it turns out that Jey Uso had planned more than just a normal match. He told Reigns and the fans that it would be a Tribal Combat match in the main event of SummerSlam.
In the main event segment of SmackDown, Jey Uso came down to the ring. He was followed by the Tribal Chief, accompanied by Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa. As the two men settled down, Roman Reigns asked if Jey still wanted to do it and could still get out if he wanted to. To this, Jey replied that this was something that he needed to do.
Roman Reigns then signed the contract, but to everyone’s surprise, Jey tore it apart. He explained that this is not just a Universal Heavyweight Championship match, but also a Tribal Combat match. The 37-year-old then looked at Reigns and explained the rules to the fans. Here are the rules of a Tribal Combat match:
1. The match will have a No-Disqualification rule
Looking at the intensity of the feud, the former Tag Team Champion hinted that this would be a no-disqualification match. Anything can happen in the match, and nothing can stop them from beating each other.
Jey Uso also said that if he wants to hit Roman with a chair, he can do so; if he wants to put Roman Reigns through a table, he can do that as well. No referees or officials can stop him from destroying the Tribal Chief and dethroning him.
2. The elders of the family need to permit the match
The main reason for the fight between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso is to have supremacy. Therefore, Roman Reigns was surprised when Jey announced that this would be a Tribal Combat match. He asked if the elders of the Samoan bloodline knew that Jey wanted a match for that stipulation.
Jey confidently replied that this was their idea, and they were the ones who suggested it to the Uso. Therefore, from their conversation, it seems like the younger members of the family need to get permission from the elders to have a Tribal Combat match.
3. The position of “Tribal Chief” is on the line
After three long years, Roman Reigns has been challenged by his very first challenger since he started his historical reign. However, this time around, the challenge is not just for the championships that Reigns holds. This time, Jey Uso has challenged Reigns for everything he represents.
Therefore, the Tribal Combat match is for the Universal Undisputed Championship as well as for the position of Head of the Table. This means that if Jey Uso wins the match, he will not only be the champion but will also dethrone Roman Reigns and become the new Tribal Chief.
Therefore, after the two traded words, Roman Reigns placed his title on the table, but along with that, he also placed his Ula Fala on the title. This meant that Roman Reigns was putting everything he had on the line against his cousin. The two then shook hands in their unique way, confirming the match.
After the segment, chaos broke out as Solo Sikoa tried to attack Jey but was stopped by Roman. However, Jey Uso super-kicked Solo and faced off against Reigns.
