Drew McIntyre stated that it was Stephanie McMahon who told McIntyre that he needed to change his in-ring name from Drew Galloway to something else. He stated that he and Michael Hayes went to talent relations, and Hayes told them to put a bunch of Scottish names on Wikipedia. The Scottish warrior said that they came across McDonald, but he didn’t like it. He said that he needed a three Syllables word, and Hayes said “McIntyre,” which he liked instantly.

“Is Drew Galloway your real name?’ I said ‘Yeah’, and she’s ‘Oh…we might need to change that.’ He quickly told them bring up Wikipedia, a bunch of Scottish names. I listened to these names with a very limited time frame to get a new name…… I need three syllables. Fans have to chant when I’m good one day, and he said, ‘Mc-In-tyre’ and I said ‘McIntyre’. ‘Mc-In-tyre’. That’s the one.”
