“I appreciate that”: When former WWE Superstar refused to work with John Cena

John Cena had a blockbuster 2021. He kicked off the year with appearing in the ninth instalment of the Fast & Furious franchisee. The 16-time World Champion played the role of Jakob Toretto in the movie – the brother of Dominik Toretto and Mia. Fans got a chance to see him in a new avatar as he played the role of villain who eventually turned to the good side.
This wasn’t all. 2021 also saw the Leader of Cenation don the superhero costume. He got a chance to play the role of Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad. Fans loved his role so much that the studio greenlit a series on his character. The show, first in the DC Extended Universe, received rave reviews and was recently renewed for the second season.
But John Cena isn’t the only one who has made a successful switch from the world of professional wrestling to Hollywood. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was the first one to do it, “The Animal” Batista too followed suit. Due to this move, all the 3 Superstars are still considered to be WWE Superstars – turned – actors.
Dave Bautista completely hates the fact that he is still known for his professional wrestling career rather than his acting portfolio. Due to this reason he refused to act in a movie with John Cena and The Rock – as he felt that people would continue to associate them with WWE. While appearing on Esquire’s Explain This YouTube series, Cena reacted to these comments from Drax of Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
“I’m super sad about that because Dave Bautista is an unbelievably gifted actor, he’s done some amazing work. But I think when someone makes a statement like that, I think the important thing is to try to look at things from their perspective. Dave has worked so hard on his craft and he is so dedicated to his characters and really wants to put forward a body of work that gives him his own identity. I one-hundred percent understand that,” mentioned the 16-time World Champion.

John Cena was seen in multiple blockbusters in 2021. In fact, he even found time to return to WWE for a month-long feud against the Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Unfortunately, he ended up on the losing side at their match at Summerslam. While he didn’t win the gold back then, Cena has a chance to redeem himself.
The Leader of Cenation has been nominated for the Favorite Movie Actor award in the 2022 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. The nomination is for his role in F9. His former colleague from WWE has been nominated too in the same category. The Rock has been nominated for his work in Red Notice and Jungle Cruise.
