McIntyre and Lesnar

While this run is presenting the Beast Incarnate as a babyface, the last time we had seen him perform for the company in his Heel avatar he was the WWE Champion. During the 20th anniversary of Smackdown, Lesnar had pinned Kofi Kingston to kick off his fifth reign as the WWE Champion. He had won the title in October 2019 and held it till April 2020.

Drew McIntyre had won the Men’s Royal Rumble match in 2020. He challenged Brock Lesnar for the title at Wrestlemania 36. After a thrilling match, McIntyre connected a Claymore kick to win his first ever WWE Championship. This was also the last time Lesnar was seen on WWE TV till he returned at Summerslam 2021.

Drew McIntyre recently appeared for an interview on The Jake Asman Show. During the show, McIntyre discussed his Wrestlemania match against the Beast Incarnate in great detail. He also revealed that he was ready to take Lesnar down if he tried to attack him before the match kicked off in the empty Performance Center.

“It almost felt like I was in a bar fight with Brock Lesnar, an empty bar with a ring in it, a street fight, if you like. If you could’ve read my mind, I remember thinking – Don’t try any funny business Brock or I’ll drop you where you stand,” mentioned the Scottish Warrior.

With the win he earned the right to main event Wrestlemania. He announced that he will be going after Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. But before that, he will be going after the WWE Championship. He will be participating in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match – with the aim of walking into Mania as a Champion.
