This Rumble match originally got broadcasted for the first time on January 24, 1988. The match started with only 20 participants back then. The match continued for thirty-three minutes. Since then, WWE has been constant in holding this pay-per-view in January each year. The main event of this pay-per-view is called the Royal Rumble match.
Who was the winner of the first Royal Rumble match?
Former American professional wrestler “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan was the first wrestler to stand tall in the Rumble match. He successfully eliminated a series of superstars to become the winner of the first Rumble match in WWE history. This 67-year colossal wrestler has gained experience in various wrestling companies like WWF, NJPW Universal Wrestling Federation.
He even wrestled on the Independent Circuit and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. This wrestling legend was famous for his ‘ American Patriot’ gimmick in WWE.
Though Jim Duggan has not been seen in WWE for years, it is wrong to assume that his career in WWE got over. He is still connected to WWE on the basis of WWE’s Legend contract.
