REVEALED: Why was Brock Lesnar removed from Wrestlemania Backlash?
The Beast Incarnate
Brock Lesnar is one of the most dominant Superstars on the WWE roster. At Wrestlemania 36 he lost the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre, post which he went on a hiatus. He soon made a thunderous return to the company at Summerslam 2021 and kicked off a feud against the Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
Amid this blockbuster feud, he had a little feud going against the then-WWE Champion Bobby Lashley. Lesnar went on to win the WWE Championship at Day 1, lose it at Royal Rumble and win it back at Elimination Chamber. With him holding a top title too – a massive Wrestlemania main event was set up.
With Roman Reigns holding the Universal Championship and Brock Lesnar holding the WWE Championship – a Champion vs Champion, Title Unification match was set up. They collided in what was touted as the Greatest Wrestlemania Match of All Time – with the Tribal Chief walking out with both the titles.
Reports suggested that right after Wrestlemania 38, Brock Lesnar flew back to Canada. In fact, he hasn’t been seen on WWE television since. But he was advertised for the upcoming premium event – Wrestlemania Backlash – which led the fans to believe that he will be back! But he has now been removed from the event advertisements.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter mentioned that Lesnar was never going to be a part of the show. ”The other significant news is that Brock Lesnar was pulled from advertising for this show, which is actually very notable. The key in this situation is not that they changed their mind, but Lesnar was actually never booked for the show, only advertised for it” – mentioned the report.
Why Brock Lesnar – Roman Reigns ended abruptly?
Touted as the Greatest Wrestlemania match of all time, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns delivered a great match – which was completely ruined by its ending. They were exchanging some strong shots but in the end, all it took for Reigns was a Spear to end the match!
Another report by Dave Meltzer revealed that this was the plan all along! “That was the match. That was the match that was laid out. That’s the nature of the way they put Lesnar matches together which is boom boom boom, big move big move…it was not a bad match by any means. It was a Brock Lesnar match, no different from many others.”
