D-Generation X is arguably one of the most iconic factions in professional wrestling history. Mainly comprised of Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Chyna, the stable used to be a major attraction of the Attitude Era. Although D-Generation X carved its legacy as an all-timer group, not many are aware of what went behind the scenes between the famed members of the stable.

The stable was first founded in 1997 with Triple H, Chyna, Shawn Michaels, and Rick Rude as its inaugural members. Rude eventually left the group and WWE alike. Michaels was forced to take a break from wrestling after incurring a serious injury following WrestleMania 14. Thus, Triple H had to take charge and rebrand the group. New members, X-Pac and The New Age Outlaws, were recruited. However, the added members didn’t get along with The Game in the long run.

Triple H has had a long history of falling out with fellow D-generation X members, including his best friend, HBK. The most obvious one has to be the late Chyna, who was his real-life girlfriend then. Hunter and Stephanie McMahon went on to have an onscreen romance, which ultimately turned into a real thing. As a result, Chyna left WWE in 2001.

Sean Waltman, aka X-Pac, dated Chyna for a few years. However, it didn’t sit well with The King of Kings. He apparently sent snide text messages to X-Pac. The 54-year-old also had heat with The New Age Outlaws, Billy Gunn, and Road Dogg when the duo signed with TNA.

Shockingly, Triple H was also at loggerheads with his best friend HBK at one point. It was when the latter was struggling with substance issues. Nonetheless, the two men reconciled a few years later and revived the edgy stable in 2006. Although Hunter had a bitter falling out with his fellow stablemate, the former eventually smoothed things over ahead of their Hall of Fame induction in 2019.

Former WWE superstar Trevor Murdoch sheds light on the severity of the friction between Triple H and The New Age Outlaws

As mentioned above, Triple H did not really have a smooth equation with his D-Generation X stablemates. The fallout between The Game and New Age Outlaws duo Billy Gunn and Road Dogg reached a breaking point, prompting the former to seek help from an ex-WWE tag team. The two individuals in question are Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch.

Speaking on the Desert Islands Graps podcast via Cultaholic, Trevor Murdoch shockingly revealed that Triple H had once requested him and his late friend to defend him against Billy Gunn and Road Dogg on a house show. The two men were coincidentally in the same city for an autograph signing, where Hunter had a house show.

There was a time period when there was a lot of animosity between Hunter and Road Dogg and Billy Gunn. We were in a town wrestling, doing a house show, but it so happened to be the same town that Road Dogg and Billy were doing an autograph signing in, which seemed suspicious in of itself. It got through the grapevine and got to Hunter that Road Dogg and Billy Gunn were going to come to the house show, and when Hunter went in for the main event they were going to hit the ring and beat his ass.

Thus, the Cerebral Assassin feared that Gunn and Dogg would jump him on the house show. In order to ensure his safety, he approached Cade and Murdoch to look out for the latter duo and beat them up if they showed up. Nonetheless, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg never showed up to the house show.
