“You Can’t See Me”: Why did John Cena miss Wrestlemania 38?

Leader of Cenation
In the last few years, Cena’s primary focus has shifted to his acting career in Hollywood – which has been flourishing as well. Last year, he was seen in two big-ticket franchisee movies – The Suicide Squad and Fast & Furious. This year, the Leader of Cenation went on to headline his own television series, based on his The Suicide Squad character of the same name, “Peacemaker”.
In between his busy Hollywood schedule, John Cena found time for WWE and returned to company for a month last year. He feuded against the Universal Champion Roman Reigns for a month, which concluded at “The Biggest Party of the Summer” Summerslam. Unfortunately, his attempt to capture his 17th World title ended in a failure.
Cena was heavily speculated to be at Wrestlmania 38, but those just turned out to be baseless rumors. A report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider recently revealed the reason behind John Cena’s absence from the Showcase of Immortals. He is currently in New Mexico shooting for his upcoming live-action-CGI Looney Toons film – Coyote vs. Acme.
While he did miss the event, Cena sent out a heartfelt message to the entire team congratulating them for delivering a “Stupendous” event. “Congrats to everyone who made this year’s #WrestleMania an absolutely STUPENDOUS 2-night affair. Celebrate the weekend, the fans & the closing one of chapter to start the next. Enjoy the shortest off season in ALL of sport & entertainment before a VOCAL #WWERaw crowd tonight!” tweeted Cena.
Seth Rollins had teased John Cena’s return

Just days before Wrestlemania, Seth Rollins was struggling to find an opponent for himself. WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, himself came to the Monday Night Messiah’s rescue and told him that he will be getting a match against a mystery opponent. Rollins started teasing several probable opponents for himself, including John Cena.
While it wasn’t Cena, the mystery opponent turned out to be the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes. It was certainly a highlight of the event. A former Executive Vice President of AEW – WWE’s biggest competitor was back on WWE. While he return was speculated heavily, it still led to one of the loudest cheers at the event.
