“Not the place for me”: Toni Storm reveals why she left WWE

Storm

Toni Storm is one of the consistently rising names in the world of professional wrestling. Originating from New Zealand, she first gained popularity after some noteworthy performances in the Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017 and 2018.  While she reached the semi-finals in 2017, Storm went the entire distance and won in 2018.

Storm was a part of the NXT UK as well as the NXT roster from 2018-2021. During her time on the UK roster, she had defeated the-then NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley for the title. Surprisingly, it was the only title she won on during her time on WWE. Last year, Storm debuted on the main roster.

Toni Storm was introduced as a part of the Smackdown roster and she went on to defeat Zelina Vega in her debut match. But the most noteworthy feud of her career was against the Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. But she ended up failing and the Queen continued her dominant run as the Champion.

Last year, right after a wonderful triple threat match against Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks in a live event, Toni Storm was released from the company. She had requested her release from the company, which was immediately accepted, due to “burnout”. In a recent interview with Busted Open Radio she revealed that WWE wasn’t for her.

I realized it wasn’t for me. As much as I might have romanticized it as a child and thought it was my dream and what I have to accomplish, I just realized, maybe it’s not and maybe it’s not the place for me. Who am I to take someone else’s spot that actually wants to be here?,” mentioned Storm.

After requesting and being granted her release from WWE, Storm made the most likely choice. As soon as her non-compete period ended, Toni Storm debuted on WWE’s biggest competitor – All Elite Wrestling. On March 30, 2022 she debuted on AEW Dynamite.

Storm appeared for a qualifier match for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament and went on to defeat The Bunny. Interestingly, while several talent is making the move from WWE to AEW, the former Executive Vice President of the company, Cody Rhodes – recently returned to WWE!
