When will the “Empress of Tomorrow” Asuka return?

Empress of Tomorrow

Asuka, is the first ever Japanese female professional wrestler to be signed by WWE in over two decades. She kicked off her career in 2004 with the AtoZ promotion. She soon became a freelancer and performed for several promotions like NEO Japan Ladies Pro-Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Wave and Smash among others.

She was signed by WWE in 2015 under a developmental deal. She went on to win the NXT Women’s Championship in 2016 and held it for 510 days – which is the longest reign in the entire history of the title. Asuka was moved to the main roster in 2017 – where she continued her dominance and went on to win the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018.

The Empress of Tomorrow is also a multi-time WWE Champion having won the Raw Women’s Championship twice, Smackdown Women’s Championship once and also the Women’s Tag Team Championship twice. She was a main-eventer for a major part of 2021, till she lost the Raw Women’s Championship to Rhea Ripley at Wrestlemania 37.

While Asuka continued to feature on WWE shows – as a Tag Team superstar, she failed to gain as much success as she did as a singles star. The Money in the Bank PPV was her last appearance on WWE TV, due to an arm injury. In fact, she was not even drafted during the WWE Draft 2021 and was declared a free agent. But fans will be delighted to know that the former Champion can be soon expected back in the ring.

As reported by Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men podcast, the Empress of Tomorrow is reportedly on her way back to WWE. She has reportedly been cleared as well. The timing of her recovery couldn’t have been more perfect. With Royal Rumble 2022 just a few days away, she could be one of the surprise entrants of the match.

At Money in the Bank 2020, Asuka won the Ladder match – but what she didn’t know was the fact that the match wasn’t for a Championship contract, but for the Championship itself. As Becky Lynch announced her pregnancy, Asuka became the Raw Women’s Champion – making her only the second Grand Slam Champion.

A couple of months later, she went on to lose the title to Sasha Banks. But she managed to recapture the title after defeating Banks at Summerslam 2020, becoming a two-time Raw Women’s Champion. She held on to the title before being pinned by Rhea Ripley. Considering her long list of accomplishments, it wont be taking her long to win a Championship, once she returns.
